READY TO ROCK

AN ENTIRE LOOK AT JOHN RICHMOND

Ana Montoya
Madonna, Mick Jagger, and Annie Lennox know the name John Richmond quite well, as his close ties to the music world enabled him to dress these celebrities. This British avant-garde fashion designer’s passion for rock music is evident in his creations, which blend “street chic” with his irreverent style. Another element of his design philosophy is “street culture,” which is seen in slogans such as “Destroy,

Disorientate, Disorder,” “Diamond Dog,” “Eat Cake,” and “Wanna be your Dog.” But it’s his dedication and originality that have made a name for him and earned him a huge following of admirers. After opening a luxury boutique in Paris in 2009, the brand is currently planning to expand to New York, Los Angeles, and Tokyo.  Today, the brand’s portfolio has grown to include eyewear, shoes, accessories, kidswear, beachwear, and underwear. John Richmond has also recently produced its first women’s fragrance, and has a men’s version on the way.

FUSION EXPLOSION
The John Richmond sunwear collection has a little bit of something for everyone, from vintage and wraparound styles to wide square and rounded shapes for women to square and aviator shapes for men to unisex masks. As far as materials go, you’ll find a variety of multilayered acetates, metals, and combinations of both, and even marble and striped effects thrown in to keep things even more interesting.

There’s no shortage of exciting colorways here, either. Faded brown, honey, burgundy, and grays abound in the acetate models, as well as interplay of contrast with lighter and darker shades paired up, such as purple/burgundy, brocaded green/yellow, and black/orange. Purple, yellow, honey havana, and classic shades of tortoise, black, and glazed white also appear in the collection. Metal styles are bright and opaque in bronze, gold, rose gold, palladium, and black, while old-looking and brushed effects add texture and flair.

MULTI-INSPIRED
Five different concepts serve as the muses for this exciting collection: jewel, it’s only rock ‘n’ roll, signature, vintage, and 80’s inspiration.

Style No. JR694

“Jewel” themed frames feature two distinct details: a lock and dragon. The lock is taken from John Richmond’s accessories and fragrances, and boasts Swarovski crystals which are used as the hinges for an elegant look. This is found in Style Nos. JR692 to JR695. Old-looking metal stands out in Style Nos. JR673 to JR675, which showcase a dragon detail on the entire temples.

The “it’s only rock ‘n’ roll” group is linked by a common detail: the old-looking metal stud with the slogan “it’s only rock ‘n’ roll” and a skull on the inner temples. Aviator Style No. JR666 stands out in this loud crowd.

John Richmond’s metal signature logo appears on the temples of Style Nos. JR689 (which also belongs to the “80’s inspiration” group) to JR691, unmistakably branding these models as part of the “signature” concept. Style No. JR689 is a square-shaped sunglass with a bi-color/multilayer combination that contrasts with a transparent layer.

The “vintage” frames offer a retro vibe in unisex Style Nos. JR686 to JR687. These sleek aviators will satisfy anyone’s desire to look cool with a hint of the past.
