Maybe it’s because I’m a writer, but I’ve always had a thing for handwritten notes. In an age where most of our correspondence happens online, it’s pretty rare that we receive cards in the mail anymore—but who can deny that special feeling you get when you see someone took the time to actually write you personally?
The same goes for companies trying to reach out to their customers. People notice when you go the extra mile to get to know them. When someone is personally invested in something, they will naturally feel more involved with and passionate about it.
As a retailer, there’s a huge opportunity with in-store promotional events. It gives you a chance to be one-on-one with your customers, and customers also get to know the brands and products you carry on a more intimate level. When you invite customers into your store for a special event, you can show them what you’re all about. You become more than just your store’s name. They now know the face behind your brand.
Take that a step further and create interactivity at these events that allows you to get to know your customers, too. Ever notice how people often love to talk about themselves? Take advantage of this and you might discover something new about your customer base that you might have not learned otherwise.
Adding a personal touch is always good for business. It shows people that you care and they’ll remember that you made the effort. Personally reaching out to your customers goes a long way, and it’s fun! Who can argue with that?
