SANTINELLI LAUNCHES EDGER
Debuting at Vision Expo West is Santinelli International Inc.’s Xtrimer SE-1 Industrial Edger with its dry cut lens edging technology. Show attendees can preview the unit’s five-axis edging technology which will be in final production in early 2013.
The Xtrimer SE-1 was designed in Japan by NIDEK Lens Edger engineers with the aim of providing the most advanced dry edging technology and cutting-edge software available in a user-friendly, reliable, and space-saving design.
Offered to both high-volume retail labs and industrial wholesale labs, the Xtrimer SE-1 will be capable of processing all organic lens materials like polycarbonate and Trivex®, the company said. The all-new platform will feature high curve beveling, grooving, drilling, polishing, safety beveling, customized shelf beveling, inclined beveling, and partial step beveling. The Xtrimer SE-1 will be available as a stand-alone edger and is designed to operate in a large-volume capacity in conjunction with the RHU-2200 Robotic Handing System. NEW PERSONALIZED LENS FROM CZV
Carl Zeiss Vision, Inc. releases the Zeiss Progressive Individual 2, a customized lens. Zeiss Progressive Individual 2 features new, proprietary EyeFit® and Center of Rotation Evaluation (CORE) technologies that improve visual performance.
EyeFit technology can personalize ZEISS Progressive Individual 2 based on the patient’s visual activity profile, enhancing the near or intermediate/dynamic performance of the lens if needed based on the patient’s visual priorities, while maintaining all-distance vision performance.
“We know that eyecare practitioners sometimes want to enhance a portion of the lens for patients with a particular need for up-close vision, computer vision, or dynamic vision for activities like sports, driving, or just working around the house,” said Claude Labeeuw, Carl Zeiss Vision’s vice president of marketing. “In the past, this has required switching to an entirely different lens design. EyeFit technology allows us to put that flexibility into one personalized lens.”
Zeiss Progressive Individual 2 also incorporates a refinement to the company’s CORE technology. The CORE algorithm customizes ZEISS Progressive Individual 2 for the patient’s center-of-rotation distance. CORE technology calculates each wearer’s center of rotation to within 1mm for 99% of wearers.
Zeiss Progressive Individual 2 features an extended Rx range, allowing add powers up to +4.00D and cylinders out to -6.00D. The lenses can be decentered up to 5mm per eye for maximum cutout. For more information, contact Carl Zeiss Vision, Inc. at 800-790-4120 ext.1002 or zeiss.com/lenses or at Vision Expo West, #LP9105.

OPTEK SHAPES UP
This month, Optek International introduces Optek Shape, a milling edger system for wholesale labs, at Vision Expo West. Traditional edgers have their edging wheels located below the lens, the Optek Shape is fitted with a six-position vertical tool turret whereby the tools rotate into position when needed in order to complete a particular process. With this rotating turret, operators can perform tasks like beveling, including step bevels, and rimless grooves with relative ease.
Optek’s Free Edge technology combines software and a multi-tool platform that allow the operator to digitize and import artwork into that program, which makes it easy to mirror, rotate, flip, and scale the design to fit the application and be reproduced from software’s memory. Not only is it possible to easily create artistic edge cut-outs, Shape is also capable of producing engravings directly onto the surface of the lens with micro precision. For more information, contact Optek International at 800-790-4120 ext.1007 or optekinternational.com or at Vision Expo West, #LP11079.
SCHNEIDER MOVES INTO EDGING
The HSE Freestyle, Schneider Optical Machines Inc.’s new stand-alone five-axis industrial edger, will be highlighted this month at Vision Expo West. With its intuitive and easy-to-use shape editor, the HSE Freestyle covers any edging requirement— specialties included—and can process complex frame styles to deliver a first-fit rate. “This is our first edger,” said Kurt Atchison, president, Schneider Optical Machines Inc. “The addition of the fifth axis adds a lot of capabilities for complex lens edging. The machine also combines high-frequency milling with wet and diamond cutting applications for better lens finish, lens quality improvements, and edge finish.”
The HSE Freestyle has a special non-tactile laser measuring technique inside which results in an extremely accurate profile and circumference measurement for a perfect fit in the frame, according to the company. “It’s very new technology and it offers some additional ways to make better, more precise lenses,” Gunter Schneider, president of Schneider GmbH & Co said. For more information, contact Schneider Optical Machines at 800-790-4120 ext.1011 or schneider-om.com or at Vision Expo West, #LP5095.
POG GOES INVISIBLE
Precision Optical Group (POG) Labs, Inc. in Creston, IA, has launched a new lens coating—Zero Glare plus UV with RB Tech. This anti-reflective (AR) coating with UV protection is nearly invisible and provides excellent protection for adults and children. POG is able to offer this technology with the help of Retinal Bliss Technology (RB Tech) by Quantum Innovations (for more information on this technology, see “Quantum Safely Deblocks Lenses,” page 15 of July 2012 OLP). Zero Glare plus UV lenses can provide custom coating to patients to eliminate glare, smudges, dust, and scratches. STAINLESS AR COATING FROM iCOATiCoat Company is introducing its Stainless AR coating with advanced UV reflection protection. Stainless AR features LUV™ (Low UV) technology that helps eliminate significant amounts of UVA and UVB rays reflected off the back surface of AR lenses. AR treatments were recently found to reflect measurable amounts of harmful UVA and UVB radiation from the back surface of the lens into the eye, regardless of the lens material, according to the company. This is true whether applied to clear, sun, polarized, or photochromic lenses. For more information, contact iCoat Company at 800-790-4120 ext.1005 or icoatcompany.com or at Vision Expo West #20051.
TRAY HANDLING MADE EASY E-Lens, Inc. has launched the TrayTaxi™ a dual purpose robotic tray handling machine capable of loading or unloading industrial surfacing and edging equipment. Managing up to 26 OMA standard trays, it is light-weight and requires a small footprint. A touch-screen monitor allows for ease-of-use and machine diagnostics. Toggling between the loading and unloading mode takes less than 20 minutes. For more information, contact E-Lens Inc. at 800-790-4120 ext.1004 or traytaxi.com or at Vision Expo West, #LT10110.
